Mission
Our mission is to develop a sense of agency in every child as the foundation for academic and life success.
Definition of Agency
We define agency as the ability to set meaningful goals and have the will and skill to achieve them.
Our Vision
Our vision is for all students to graduate with a sense of ownership over their learning and their lives – so that no matter what the future looks like, they have the capacity to adapt and flourish.
Designing for student agency
How the Red Bridge school design supports the development of agency
Autonomy Levels
vs. Grade Levels
students are grouped by their capacity to drive their learning independently
Guides vs. Teachers
learning guides coach each child one-on-one on work habits and interpersonal skills, curating the learning journey
Portfolio vs. Report Card
progress is tracked through a digital portfolio that includes mastery credits tied to work samples
Learning Credits vs. Grades
students select credits to work toward, submit evidence of mastery, and receive expert feedback
Deep Dives
3x/year students participate in extended project-based learning experiences, which scale up with the Autonomy Levels
[see what this looked like for Autonomy Level 2 and their Deep Dive into Cafeterias in the fall of 2023]
Student-Initiated Promotion vs. Age-Based
students advocate for their own promotion based on their work habits
Learning How to Learn vs. Learning Content
the focus is on the learning skills that will last students a lifetime and that apply to any discipline
Goal Work vs. Assignments
every student has unique goals, both academic and non-academic, they are working on
Flexible Timetable vs. Bell Schedule
the school building stays open longer each day for students who need more time to reach mastery
